Romesh Jeyaseelanayagam of The FD Consultant joins a panel at the Reframing the Entrepreneur Webinar

This event has passed.

Romesh was excited to be part of a panel of founders and growth experts at the Reframing the Entrepreneur webinar.

The webinar covered the skills and strategies entrepreneurs need to thrive in today's rapidly changing environment.

The event was a discussion about how the future requires entrepreneurship. Thus, for a more sustainable and desirable future, we need to reframe and democratise entrepreneurship, emphasising capability instead of opportunity, to make entrepreneurship more accessible to all interested.

We approached this discussion from several perspectives:

  • Behavioural and psychological: What behaviours make entrepreneurs successful? Can anyone become an entrepreneur?

  • Innovation: Is radical innovation a prerequisite to successful entrepreneurship? Must the business idea leverage the latest technology or be something completely novel?

Speakers at Reframing the Entrepreneur webinar:

Mike Oliver - Founder, Easol

Mike is the Founder of Easol and has a proven track record of supporting entrepreneurial individuals, start-ups, SMEs, and large corporates across several industries, including the UN, Home Office, Unmanned Air Systems, Ministry of Defence, National Health Service, Space and Rail sectors, as well as with start-ups and scale-ups across the Fintech, MarTech, Social Impact, GreenTech, and HR.

He believes that redefining and democratising entrepreneurship is the key to bringing about innovation and growth that is socially and environmentally sustainable.

Jess is a business psychologist specialising in enabling high performance through great leaders, cultures and practices. She is particularly interested in leadership capability and designing robust and predictive talent processes. Jess believes that if we are to create a future world that enhances the well-being of people and the planet, we need to generate ideas from a diverse group of thinkers.

However, she has observed barriers to entry for many entrepreneurs, which limit the potential for change. In this session, she hopes to define alternative paths that will benefit not just the entrepreneurs but all of us who benefit from their excellent work.

Luke Battye is a behavioural scientist and innovation expert who has helped teams at Nike, Intel, McDonald's, Scottish Power, ARM Microchips, Gordon Ramsay, Virgin Atlantic, Oxford University and The Red Cross to use cutting-edge problem-solving frameworks and collaboration techniques to overcome existential threats and seize step-change opportunities.

Luke has found that opportunity is created when you see new ways to create value with what you have rather than being weighed down by what's missing, and he is looking forward to exploring this topic with the rest of the panel.

As the Founder of The FD Consultant, Romesh and his team of friendly, experienced consultants help companies grow their business through financial consulting, supporting them in setting up and running value-added finance functions, raising funding, forecasting, developing financial and commercial strategy, and more.

He believes in encouraging entrepreneurial activity and making the whole entrepreneurial space more accessible and easier to navigate. This is one of the main drivers of The FD Consultant, which wants to help business management make better decisions quicker.

Esme is the founder of Considered Capital, a platform that gives mission-driven organisations and businesses the tools they need to raise alternative funding. Drawing on her experiences as an impact founder and investor, Esme is particularly interested in alternative ownership and governance models and innovative investment finance.

Before founding Considered Capital, she was Director of Chapters at Zebras Unite, an international and intersectional hybrid cooperative dedicated to creating new financial instruments for the next economy. Esme is an active angel investor and was named one of the Top 100 Women in Social Enterprise by Pioneers Post.
